Virtual Simulation Training Case Study: Addressing Healthcare Communications Challenges at Elsevier

The Challenge

Elsevier, a global information analytics company that helps institutions advance science, healthcare, and technology, looked to Mursion to address challenging healthcare communications in two of its university training programs: Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Solution

Mursion designed virtual reality scenarios to address the learning objectives of students in healthcare fields, including covering difficult topics with patients and improving awareness of nonverbal cues in these conversations. For each objective, clear parameters were set, detailing potential learner “hits and misses” and how the simulation avatar should respond in each situation.

Students reported highly successful outcomes:

93% found the Mursion simulations valuable or very valuable

90% stated the feedback was useful or very useful

88% reported that the simulation was beneficial in preparing them for real-life clinical situations
